For a team coming off a 6-11 campaign in 2024, the San Francisco 49ers had a strange reaction to that season during the first wave of free agency.

On the latest episode of the Niner Noise Podcast, your hosts (Robert Morrison and Akshaj Dwivedula) look at all the players the Niners lost during the offseason so far and the relatively middling group of players they added to the mix via free agency.

The conversation begins with a general response to the strategy the 49ers have taken this offseason, as well as looking back at the previous episode of the pod where they looked at moves the Niners could make, doing a bit of an impromptu report card on how the predictions went (spoiler alert: the grades are not good).

Next, they discuss the players who have left the team, including key contributors like linebacker Dre Greenlaw (who joined the Denver Broncos), defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (who signed with Minnesota), and Leonard Floyd (who went home to Atlanta), and how this will impact San Francisco.

The podcast hosts also try to figure out why the offseason had to be done this way and ask the question as to whether or not there was another way to save space on the salary cap while not gutting entire units like the defensive line.

Furthermore, they bemoan the 49ers' lack of attention paid to players like defensive end Azeez Ojulari, who went to the Eagles for $4 million for one year and is the exact type of player the Niners usually sign with regularity.

Finally, they look at the players San Francisco did sign and why the group is both a positive sign and concerning given the state of the team after last season.
