The Niner Noise Podcast didn't know what to do with itself when the season officially ended on Jan. 5. Since the show's inception, covering deep playoff runs has often been the norm, so with the San Francisco 49ers out of the running, a gap has been created.

Hence a break in the action for the pod, but it returns this week to dive into the ins and outs of the Niners' offseason so far.

Featuring your hosts Robert Morrison and Akshaj Dwivedula, the conversation begins with a focus on the San Francisco's current openings at defensive and special teams coordinator, after Nick Sorensen was "demoted" (but not altogether fired) and Brian Schneider was cut loose after two years in the ST coordinator role.

You can listen to the full episode below:

This all leads to a lengthy explanation of the process the 49ers have taken since then to replace Sorensen, much of which has focused on the team's former defensive coordinator and recent New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who is available again after New York fired him in the middle of last season.

Other names are tossed around, but the podcast episode is focused on why lingering around for Saleh is not the best idea, even if the idea of Saleh returning isn't the worst option out there.

The conversation then moves to the AP All-Pro teams and the already discussed issues with tight end George Kittle and fullback Kyle Juszczyk making the second team but not the first. Linebacker Fred Warner, he of the first team, also gets talked about, if only to spend more time talking about how great Warner is (especially while playing on a broken ankle for much of the season).

From there, your hosts look ahead to Conference Championship Weekend and dive into what they hope will happen (including what most of 49ers fans should be hoping for) and why those hopes may or may not come to fruition.
