The Niner Noise podcast is here to get you ready for the NFL Draft, which starts just 10 days from now when the Tennessee Titans will kickstart the proceedings with the no.1 overall selection.
The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 11 overall pick in that first round, and there is a great deal of chatter about what the Niners will do to improve their squad with that selection.
On the latest episode of the Niner Noise Podcast, your hosts (Robert Morrison and Akshaj Dwivedula) take on another theoretical move the team could make, this time focused on yet another former Michigan defender: cornerback Will Johnson.
You can listen to the full episode below:
Akshaj posits that the 49ers could select Johnson at No. 11 if he is available, even if the cornerback position is not necessarily the highest need for the current roster, and discusses why Johnson would be an excellent fit for coordinator Robert Saleh's defense.
The crux of the point is clear: adding Johnson alongside Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green would not only increase the floor of the cornerback group, it would make them among the NFL's best for years to come.
There are some downsides to Johnson, which are detailed in the episode, ranging from injury concerns to his being outside of the 49ers' biggest areas of need, namely the offensive and defensive lines.
Ultimately, the episode is clear on its position on Johnson, but you'll want to download and listen to it in order to get a full understanding of both of your co-hosts' viewpoints on whether or not Johnson would ultimately be a good selection for San Francisco.
