3 New Year's resolutions for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in 2025

If these resolutions are realized, Brock Purdy will have a much better 2025.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had a rough 2024 campaign. He was not alone as the entire team struggled and missed the postseason for the first time since 2020.

Purdy and the Niners can get back on track with these resolutions.

Unfortunately, Purdy exited Week 17's game against the Detroit Lions late with a right elbow injury. Fans do not need to be reminded that Purdy injured that same elbow in the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles in early 2023.

Thankfully, Purdy seems to have escaped a major injury, but it seems like the Niners will shut him down as a precaution in Week 18.

Purdy's game against Detroit was an encapsulation of his 2024 season as a whole. When he is good, he can be really good, delivering passes right on the money and scrambling to score touchdowns. Yet, we also saw some of Purdy's worst traits on display with two sloppy picks, one of which came on a bad overthrow and the other came on him not seeing the safety in the middle of the field.

Even though Purdy had an up and down 2024, he still showed enough to prove that he can be a good quarterback in the NFL and can lead the Niners back to the playoffs.

Brock Purdy New Year's Resolution No. 1: Get paid

Purdy's looming contract extension will be the main topic of discussion for the 49ers this offseason until an agreement is reached.

There has already been endless debate about whether the Niners should extend the Iowa State product, and if they do, how much should they pay him? Ultimately, the details should get sorted out and a deal should get done.

Both sides would benefit from an extension, and giving Purdy some job security while the Niners get a solid quarterback is something that makes too much sense not to happen.

Brock Purdy's New Year's Resolution No. 2: Get teammates back

Part of the reason why Purdy was not as effective this season is because he was without several of his star players for much of the year.

If the Niners can get Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Trent Williams back and healthy for most of 2025, it would not be a surprise to see the offense and Purdy look more like they did in 2023 rather than 2024.

Brock Purdy's New Year's Resolution No. 3: Protect the ball better

Purdy's overall stats were not terrible for 2024. He had 25 touchdowns, 20 passing and five rushing, compared to 12 interceptions. That is not a completely unacceptable number of turnovers, but it is far from ideal. Purdy is tied for third-most interceptions for quarterbacks in 2024 which is not great.

He needs to do a better job of taking care of the ball in 2025.

Brock Purdy has done enough in his three NFL seasons to warrant the 49ers extending him. If these three resolutions come true, both Purdy and the Niners should have a much more fruitful 2025 season.
