While there are plenty of benefits to the fact the San Francisco 49ers signed two veteran wide receivers this offseason, one overlooked one could be the mentorship role Mike Evans and Christian Kirk could adopt with the team’s younger receivers.
We are already seeing evidence of this as Kirk and Ricky Pearsall are training together in the offseason:

That’s awesome to see.
Kirk is an established veteran who has had a lot of success in the NFL, so any wisdom or tips he can pass on to a young player like Pearsall are only going to help as the third-year pro tries to establish himself as a reliable and consistent player.
Kirk was always a thorn in San Francisco’s side when he was with the Arizona Cardinals, and he went on to have a lot of success with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Back in 2022, he had 1,108 receiving yards with eight touchdowns. Since then, his numbers have declined precipitously, but injuries have played a bit of a role in that.
The 29-year-old veteran is still a legitimate deep threat, so expect him to make some plays down the field next season for the Niners. It would also be nice if he could help Pearsall become a more potent deep threat, too. When healthy, Pearsall can certainly make plays down the field, but it should help learning from a guy who knows how to make explosive plays.
Evans, meanwhile, should be able to serve as a valuable mentor to San Francisco's young receivers. Even if he’s not necessarily training with them in the offseason, just the fact young players like Pearsall, Jordan Watkins, and Jacob Cowing can watch how a future Canton enshrinee goes about his work and prepares will be invaluable for their development.
It feels a lot like when the 49ers acquired veteran receiver Anquan Boldin toward the end of his career. He was solid on the field for the Niners and surely helped behind the scenes with their younger receivers.
Even established players like George Kittle might pick up little tips or tricks of the trade that can help him be an even better player.
The Niners may end up only having Evans and Kirk for one year each, but even if both end up being one and done, their presence could be felt for many more years, thanks to whatever they pass on to the other players on the roster.
