The San Francisco 49ers have every reason to be optimistic about improving to 6-0 on the season, tearing away in the NFC West after both the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams lost earlier.
To do that, though, the Niners will have to overcome the 1-3-1 Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football at Levi's Stadium, and that might be a considerably more difficult task if top wide receiver Mike Evans is unavailable.
Evans, who is already dealing with a ribs injury suffered weeks earlier, was also listed as questionable with an Achilles injury on San Francisco's final injury report.
Despite the previous injuries, Evans has already appeared in all five of the 49ers' games this season, logging an impressive 326 yards and three touchdowns—a pure go-to for quarterback Brock Purdy, both along the sidelines and in the red zone.
Unfortunately, considering how shorthanded the Niners are at wide receiver, currently, Evans' would-be absence potentially denies Purdy and Co. one of their best weapons. This is compounded by the fact fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) has already been ruled out for Week 6.
And Evans' status appears to be a gametime decision.
Latest injury news and updates for 49ers WR Mike Evans vs. Commanders
Evans is savvy enough a veteran to know his own body's limitations, and the fact he gutted it out through a painful ribs injury is a testament to his willingness to play.
Provided there aren't any major setbacks, of course.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, San Francisco is "optimistic" Evans will be a full-go for Monday Night Football, although the 49ers may not fully decide until the weekly inactive list is due 90 minutes prior to kickoff:

Additionally, San Francisco opted not to activate wide receiver Christian Kirk for Monday night, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows, which suggests there's a better chance for Evans to suit up and be available.
Had Kirk been activated, it might've suggested Evans wasn't quite where he needed to be in order to play.
The Niners and Commanders kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
