They do have a lot of big names.

The San Francisco 49ers will enter next season with high hopes they can make it back to the playoffs. There are obviously a ton of variables with that, but the Niners' Madden ratings at least suggest the team could be a juggernaut on paper.

According to Coach Yac on social media, Christian McCaffrey is ranked at 97 overall, Fred Warner at 97, George Kittle at 96, Trent Williams at 96, Nick Bosa at 94, and Mike Evans at 91.

Those are pretty great numbers, as most teams typically don’t have that many players rated in the 90s.

Of course, that also comes with the caveat that their “durability” rating is probably quite low. 49ers fans know that injuries could mess next season up in a big way, but let’s dream on these Madden ratings for a minute and imagine a scenario in which everything goes right for San Francisco.

First, let’s assume the team stays relatively healthy. It would be unrealistic to say that none of those star players miss any time but let’s imagine they all at least avoid season-ending injuries and all play in at least 14 games.

That would put San Francisco in a pretty great spot. If the Niners can keep those stars out there consistently, then there is no reason to think that they cannot be a top-10 offense.

On defense, the Niners had to try and survive without Fred Warner and Nick Bosa for most of last season. Assuming those guys can stay healthy and look like their usual selves, it’s not unreasonable to think San Francisco should at least be average, defensively.

Average on defense and above average on offense is not a bad recipe for success, although there is a chance the 49ers might get into a fair number of shootouts next season with the way the roster is constructed.

They proved last season they can win games like that when they emerged victorious over the Chicago Bears late in the year in a game that featured practically no defense outside of an early pick-six.

Every team is different, though. Some years, the Niners have had a strong defense and a more middling offense, and some years, vice versa. On paper, this 49ers team could be great on both sides of the ball, they obviously just need to have some things go their way.

Madden ratings do not count for much, but it's just a reminder that San Francisco has a lot of great players on the roster. Yes, they are older, and yes, injuries are a big concern, but it is important to remember the 49ers just have a lot of pure skill on the roster.
