Latest Commanders news proves how bad Brandon Aiyuk is at reading tea leaves

If there ever was a need for NFL players to know how to torpedo their careers, disgruntled (still) San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk should write the book.

Aiyuk's ongoing social media rants, which originally attacked solely the Niners but expanded to go after his former agent, the players union and even the quarterback from the team he wants to join, the Washington Commanders' Jayden Daniels, all have painted about the worst picture possible of the embattled wideout.

If San Francisco long felt Aiyuk was damaged goods, the rest of the league is effectively admitting as much.

Including Washington.

Commanders press conference subtly takes jab at Brandon Aiyuk

During one of their training camp practices, Commanders general manager Adam Peters was indirectly asked about Aiyuk by NBC Sports' J.P. Finlay. Without specifically mentioning Aiyuk's name, Finlay asked Peters if a player's social media activity had any bearing on whether or not Washington would consider adding him.

Peters' answer was awfully telling:

"That's not usually a huge part of it... Usually," Peters responded.

All one needs to do is read the last word to understand where Washington is on the Aiyuk front at this point. And if the receiver felt his social media actions would go unnoticed, particularly by the team for which he desperately wants to play, he was sorely wrong.

Ian Rapoport adds more doubt to Brandon Aiyuk joining Commanders

While Peters' response was awfully telling, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport recently shared how many close to Aiyuk (including some associated with Washington) aren't even concerned about his ability to help a new team on the field.

Speaking on The Insiders:

"Those close to (Brandon) Aiyuk, including some within the Commanders building, are much more concerned about his well-being. Making sure he is OK rather than signing him. That seems to be a long shot right now."

If it truly is a well-being issue, then Aiyuk certainly deserves some grace. Yet that won't fully absolve him from many of the statements and actions made since being placed on the reserve/left-squad list late last season.

Heck, even calling out head coach Kyle Shanahan after the coach was involved in an injury-causing auto accident was easily seen as way out of line.

Regardless, whatever strategy Aiyuk has tried deploying over the last several months is clearly backfiring in a major way.

Coupled with the fact he's not reverting from it makes the whole thing even worse, especially for his NFL future.
