Kyle Shanahan can't stop gushing over 49ers adding Mike Evans

Understandably, the head coach is excited.

The San Francisco 49ers haven't been known for landing big-name free agents in recent years under head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch. Perhaps the 2018 pickup of former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. But not too many other big names since.

That changed with the Niners' marquee acquisition of wide receiver Mike Evans.

Evans, who had recorded at least 1,000 yards in each year of his career prior to being beset with injuries in 2025, nevertheless gives Shanahan a weapon unlike most the coach has had dating back to 2017.

It'll benefit the Niners, too, especially considering Evans apparently took less money to play with San Francisco than he could have received to stay with the Bucs.

"Mike is a unique dude," Shanahan added. "He’s a Hall of Famer. Never had a guy truly like Mike. Had some Hall of Famers, but they’ve all been wired differently. To get a guy with Mike’s length and what he can do down the field, how big of a competitor he is, I just love the guy that we added, and how committed he is to winning. And that’s why I think he chose to come to us."

Immediately, Evans slots in as Shanahan's best receiver, taking plenty of pressure off the remaining crop of wideouts on his roster.

Provided the 32 year old stays healthy, it's hard to envision anything else but a massive season in his first year in the B
