After what some fans might classify as a "nightmare" season, the San Francisco 49ers are just about to head into an offseason with some glaring question marks.
What will the team do with wide receiver Deebo Samuel? Will they have to start planning for life after Christian McCaffrey? Is Dre Greenlaw guaranteed to come back before officially hitting free agency in a couple of months?
One question that had also been asked by some, for whatever reason, was whether or not head coach Kyle Shanahan would be let go or even traded to another franchise. After a down year, some media pundits started to pose the question and, somehow, it gained traction.
While the rumors of Shanahan ever going anywhere have since been shut down, there are those who still believe it best to question the head coach and even offer subtle jabs in the media room.
Niners beat reporter Grant Cohn had a chance to offer up a question in Shanahan's direction, this week, and let's just say the head coach didn't particularly like it.
Kyle Shanahan was not happy with being asked such a silly question amid the 49ers' losing season
Cohn asked Shanahan if he was "frustrated with his Individual performance" over the course of the season, to which the coach replied:
"I don't understand how to answer that question. I work as hard as I can at my individual performance. So I'm frustrated with our season, I'm responsible for everything, so I think you can figure that out."
More 49ers news:
Shanahan "looked away and scoffed" prior to answering the question, too, per Cohn.
There might be some who would worry about a head coach whose team has gone 1-6 in the team's last seven games. But, Shanahan isn't one of them. Fans know, by now, how many injuries this team has had to deal with.
And, it's been all season. Big names, too.
You can chalk this season up to an off year with injuries playing a big part. Sure, the "Super Bowl hangover" is worth arguing as well. But, that also points to the obvious fact that Shanahan has led this franchise to a pair of Super Bowls since taking over as head coach.
He continues to operate as one of the better head coaches and offensive minds in the game, today. There's no reason why anyone should be calling for his job. That idea was and still is just plain silly.
If Shanahan was fired, he'd have another job before any other coaching candidate on this current cycle, and you can take that to the bank.
