Kendrick Bourne faces Seahawks knowing $250,000 hangs in the balance

Maybe he can reach another financial incentive.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne reached the 500-yard mark in receiving yards on the season to earn him a $500,000 contract incentive, but he still has an extra $250,000 on the line in Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Per Bourne's contract with the Niners, if he reaches 600 receiving yards on the season, he will earn an extra $250,000 on top of the $500,000 he already earned. He would need a solid game as he currently sits at 551 receiving yards on the season, so he will, fittingly, need at least 49 yards to reach that mark.

Bourne let it slip that his wife likes expensive things, so apparently that bonus came at the perfect time as he hit the 500-yard mark right before Christmas against the Indianapolis Colts.

It seemed like him reaching 500 yards was a little bit in question after he was hanging just below that mark for several weeks and was becoming less and less of a factor in the offense. But the last few weeks, the veteran receiver has gotten back into the mix and seems to be on the same page as quarterback Brock Purdy.

The two connected on a 25-yard pass last week against the Chicago Bears, so it appears as if Mac Jones is not the only quarterback who can utilize Bourne, even though the two have chemistry dating back to their time together with the New England Patriots.

Bourne should have a decent chance to break that 600-yard threshold in Week 18. He and Demarcus Robinson seem to be the co-No. 3 wide receivers behind Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall on the depth chart, so he could definitely get a target or two in the game.

However, if tight end George Kittle returns to face the Seahawks, that may mean less targets for fringe wideouts like Bourne.

No matter what, Bourne deserves credit for the year he has had with San Francisco. The team scooped him up after he was let go by the Patriots, and he had some huge games, including a 142-yard performance in a win over the Los Angeles Rams that has loomed large all season as the Niners now have a chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a win on Saturday.

The Niners will be more preoccupied with getting a victory rather than getting Bourne his targets, but maybe the stars can align and both things can be accomplished.
