There's a direct correlation between San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings and NBA star Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors.
Players and fans from other teams love to hate them both, yet both players' respective squads and fanbases love them.
In short, "hate him if he's on another team, love him if he's on yours."
Perhaps few other incidents for Jennings encompassed this more than two in back-to-back weeks, first when the physical wideout was punched "south of the border" by Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig after Week 12, followed by multiple accusations by Cleveland Browns defenders following Week 13.
Speaking on his weekly appearance on KNBR 680's Murph & Markus Show after the Browns game, general manager John Lynch essentially said what every Niners fan is thinking about Jennings' nature and presence.
John Lynch wouldn't have Jauan Jennings any other way
Lynch admitted he didn't know exactly what Jennings said, specifically to Cleveland defensive tackle Shelby Harris that enticed the latter into some serious accusations postgame.
However, the GM acknowledged Jennings' ability to get under opponents' skin.
"I think when he's on your team, I kind of liken it to Draymond [Green]," Lynch said. "I mean, Draymond just plays so hard that he's an irritant. That's very similar. Jauan plays really hard, to the whistle, and they, frankly, aren't used to receivers doing that to them."
There's the two-sport, two-player comparison again.
"And then, he's exceptionally strong, and so he tosses these guys around a little," Lynch continued. "And it's a great thing that he's on our side. I don't believe that he crosses the line with things he says out there. I think he just kind of gets under people's skin because he plays a certain way. And I can tell you this: They all wish he were on their team, so we love having him on ours."
Again, Lynch is saying essentially what every San Francisco fan is thinking: It's great to have Jennings in the red and gold, but the rooting interests would be the exact opposite if he was playing for someone else.
He'd be easy to hate in such a case.
Since Jennings is on the 49ers, though, his style of play is adored by the fanbase.
Lynch would agree.
