Please, Green Bay Packers. Sign former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a free-agent deal.
This isn't just throwing a suggestion against the wall and hoping it'd stick. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Jimmy G going to Green Bay to back up its starter, Jordan Love, isn't out of the question. And it makes sense after the Packers lost Malik Willis but still have a system familiar to Garoppolo under head coach Matt LaFleur.
Granted, Green Bay might not be thrilled at the idea of adding a No. 2 signal-caller who fully flamed out after his days in the Bay Area were complete, only to pivot to the Los Angeles Rams' backup job behind Matthew Stafford the last two seasons.
And Niners fans would probably smirk at the idea of Jimmy G heading to the Packers, too.
Albeit for entirely different reasons than the expected on-field play.
Remember what Jimmy Garoppolo said about the Packers in January 2022?
Green Bay fans probably didn't care to watch the postgame highlights, but let's rewind back to the 2022 divisional-round game against San Francisco in the frigid conditions of Lambeau Field.
Yes, the game in which safety Talanoa Hufanga unexpectedly scooped up a blocked punt for a game-tying touchdown, which subsequently led to kicker (and unashamed Chicago Bears fan) Robbie Gould kicking a game-winning field goal not too long thereafter.
Garoppolo, San Francisco's starter at the time, embraced Gould and had a not-safe-for-work response, which can be viewed below:
It's important to note how Garoppolo is from Arlington Heights outside of Chicago, Illinois, and grew up a Bears fan, too.
Assuredly, Jimmy G would relinquish that Packers hatred if Green Bay offered him a likable contract.
But, at least for the sake of entertainment purposes, it'd be great to see what Packers fans and media types would say to Garoppolo about that 2022 interaction if he ultimately signed there.
