Jauan Jennings could help himself and the 49ers by finishing the year strong

The San Francisco 49ers have already proved to be one of the most resilient teams in the NFL, battling to a 7-4 record, despite a ton of injuries to key players. While the team is currently third in the loaded NFC West, San Francisco is still in the mix for the division title and in position for a Wild Card spot, if it can’t secure the division crown.

The Niners have battled to this position despite an underwhelming year from veteran receiver Jauan Jennings. The wideout was coming of a career year, and was expected to build on that this season.

That hasn’t happened yet, and that’s why ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner recently named Jennings as the San Francisco player under the most pressure for the rest of the season.

ESPN names Jauan Jennings as the 49ers player under the most pressure

The reason Jennings got this designation was simple: He’s in the middle of a contract year and hasn’t put up the kind of numbers that will help him get a lucrative deal.

A strong finish to the season would not only help his upcoming negotiations, it will help San Francisco on its playoff push:

"Jennings has recently showed signs of life but hasn't produced (32 catches for 378 yards and three touchdowns) at nearly the level he did in 2024. He could use a finishing flourish to land the type of deal he wants, and the 49ers need his strong play to make a postseason push."

As Wagoner points out, the receiver’s current numbers are on pace to be a step back from the 77 passes he caught a year ago for 975 yards and six touchdowns. With his contract being incentive heavy, Jennings is currently leaving a lot of money on the table for this year and in his next deal.

In Jennings’ defense, the wide receiver has battled through numerous injuries this season. Despite everything he’s been dealing with, he has been on the field for nine of San Francisco’s 11 games. While the injuries have surely affected his production, the 49ers have to appreciate him toughing it out and being available for the team.

Now, it would be really great if the receiver can capture his form from last year, as this season reaches the home stretch.
