In an NFC West that boasts three of the league's best teams in the San Francisco 49ers, the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams, the Arizona Cardinals stick out like a sore thumb. And the Cardinals have already given Niners fans plenty of reason to laugh this offseason.
But Jacoby Brissett just provided another.
After holding out during the offseason program, which was already ridiculous after he went 1-11 under center in Arizona last year, Brissett finally got his money: a one-year deal for $15.5 million, worth up to $21 million. That's a lot for someone who is effectively a "tank commander" in 2026.
However, getting paid doesn't mean that you are immediately caught up. Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck have been getting all the reps with the Cardinals' starters, but they won't be under center in Week 1. And Brissett isn't sugarcoating just how far behind he already is.

When asked by the local media on Sunday how he is picking up the new offense in Arizona, which is being designed by Mike LaFleur and Nathaniel Hackett (another reason to laugh at the Cardinals, but I digress), Brissett simply said that he doesn't have a grasp on it yet.
"Oh, hell no," Brissett said about having the offense down. "I think we just ran all Day 1 plays out there for me today. So, I got a long way to go."
Uhhh...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "Day 1 plays" probably shouldn't be getting installed or repped after an offseason program, 10 days of OTA practices and a mandatory minicamp. The Cardinals are even further behind the 8-ball in the AFC West than 49ers fans thought.
Brissett went on to explain that he is not naive to the fact that it is a new offense for everybody and that training camp is a time to learn. But that learning began back in March for most of his other teammates, and he is now a few million dollars richer and stepping in late, holding everyone back.
Surely, that won't ruffle any feathers (no pun intended).
Look, punching down on Arizona is like kicking someone when they are down. And next year, the Cardinals will likely pluck a promising young quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft, if they are so lucky.
But for now, they are the punching bag of the division, and Brissett made them even more of a joke.
