The San Francisco 49ers couldn't have asked for a better opponent than the two-win Tennessee Titans when coming off a bye in Week 14. Should the Niners have any rust, it's not as if Tennessee poses much of a threat.
Plus, head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad should be extremely healthy, too, right?
Well, mostly. And running back Christian McCaffrey might be asking himself the same question after a two-week break.
McCaffrey was dealing with an illness earlier in the week, which forced him to be limited in practice. Yet on Friday's injury announcements, Shanahan told reporters the All-Pro would be good to go for Sunday's contest against the Titans at Levi's Stadium.
Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen back issue, McCaffrey was added back to the injury report on Saturday, officially listed as questionable.
Will Christian McCaffrey play in 49ers vs. Titans?
McCaffrey, who missed all but four games last season with both Achilles and knee injuries, has stayed almost entirely healthy this season, honing in on what'd be his second 1,000/1,000 campaign -- rushing for 1,000 yards while also receiving 1,000 yards. He's currently only one of three players to do so at the NFL level.
Fortunately, according to two well-regarded league insiders, all signs are pointing to the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year suiting up against Tennessee, ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:
Despite being added to the injury report today as questionable due to a back injury, 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is expected to be “good to go” Sunday vs. the Titans, per source. pic.twitter.com/BnqTACkaLl

#49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, a late addition to the injury report because of a back issue, should be good to go for Sunday, source said.

Of course, there could be a last-second change just ahead of the game, which is what happened way back in Week 1 of the 2024 season when McCaffrey was ultimately declared inactive despite previous reports of him being ready to go.
Fortunately, though, it appears as if that won't be the case this go-around, and Shanahan would certainly want the dual-threat weapon to edge as close as he can to that elusive 1,000/1,000 feat.
The final decision whether CMC plays will be made when inactives are announced 90 minutes prior to the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
