San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk continues to make it clear he wants to go to the Washington Commanders. Niners tight end George Kittle just warned the Commanders about all the baggage that would come with signing Aiyuk in a recent podcast.
On Pardon My Take, Kittle was asked about Aiyuk and said the following when asked about the disgruntled wide receiver potentially going to the Commanders, "You guys have fun with that, I guess... You have fun that all that comes with it."
The Commanders probably don't need to be warned about Aiyuk's behavior. They are seeing the same social media posts as everyone else, so they know how much the guy likes attention. Any team that takes a chance on Aiyuk does so knowing what it is getting itself into.
The fact that Kittle is commenting on it shows how he has soured on Aiyuk. He's been fairly positive in the past, saying he hopes nothing but the best for Aiyuk.
Now, it seems even he has grown tired of Aiyuk's antics to the point that he is willing to take some shots at him.
Later in the podcast he also said, "You're right. I wouldn't be happy either after a team paid me a $130 million," when one of the hosts said maybe Aiyuk would finally be happy with Washington.
Kittle is the kind of player who is fiercely loyal to his teammates, but if they step out of line or quit on the team, he is not afraid to call them out. Kittle wasted no time calling out linebacker De'Vondre Campbell after he quit on the team in a middle of a game during the 2024 season when he was pulled in favor of Dre Greenlaw.
It may seem like the fun-loving tight end just wants to goof around and have a laugh out on the gridiron, but he is unquestionably a fierce competitor. He'll defend a teammate as long as they show up, work hard and do everything it takes to win. But if they quit or start doing things to distract the team, Kittle will be the first to speak up.
That's why Kittle is the consummate example of what it means to be a good teammate, while Aiyuk has done nothing except think about himself the last two years. It's a messy situation that has been mishandled by both the 49ers and Aiyuk, but at the end of the day, he is the one choosing to draw attention to himself, and clearly Kittle is sick of it.
