George Kittle doesn’t hold back on De’Vondre Campbell for quitting on 49ers

Football players get paid to do one thing: Play football. San Francisco 49ers linebacker De'Vondre Campbell decided during the 49ers' loss to the Los Angeles Rams, a loss that ended whatever small hopes the Niners had of making the playoffs, that he didn't want to do his job.

According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN, after Dre Greenlaw and Dee Winters were both injured and had to come out of the game, the team turned to Campbell. From Wagoner's article, "Campbell declined the invitation. Then, in the fourth quarter, Campbell walked to the locker room with a towel over his head without playing a snap. After the Niners' 12-6 defeat at Levi's Stadium, head coach Kyle Shanahan explained that Campbell elected not to enter the game even though linebackers Dre Greenlaw (knee) and Dee Winters (neck) were dealing with injuries."

When asked about the situation, Kyle Shanahan offered a simple response of, "He said he didn't want to play today."

49ers tight end George Kittle wasn't having Campbell's behavior and didn't hold back when unloading on his teammate. “I've never been around anybody that's ever done that, and I hope I'm never around anyone that does that again," Kittle said.

George Kittle unloads on De'Vondre Campbell for refusing to play

It's not as though this is Campbell's first year and that he's decided he suddenly doesn't want to be getting hit by people at the professional level. No, Campbell has been in the league since 2016 when he was a fourth-round pick by the Falcons out of Minnesota. He's played in the NFL for nine years and was first-team All-Pro in 2021 when he was with the Packers.

Unfortunately for Campbell, his selfishness in this game is likely going to be what he's remembered the most for when his career comes to an end, which thanks to this stunt, will probably come soon. Maybe Campbell didn't want to get injured when his team is officially out of the playoff hunt (well, not officially, but they may as well be). No matter his reasoning, quitting on his teammates is a terrible look and Kittle has a right to be steamed.

Charvarius Ward also took a shot at Campbell and said that the linebacker should be cut for the shenanigans he pulled. When people show you your true colors, it's best to believe them. Campbell showed that his heart isn't in it and that he doesn't care enough about his teammates and the 49ers should follow suit and not employ him anymore.
