For a little while, there was a small buzz that now-former Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel was coming back to the Bay Area to rejoin the San Francisco 49ers after his one-year hiatus.
It didn't happen, of course, and the chances of it taking place in the wake of the 2026 NFL Draft remain minimal.
But Samuel will end up playing somewhere else this season. It's just a matter of with whom... and when he signs.
Bleacher Report has been combing through some of the top still-available free agents on the market, including the 30-year-old Samuel, trying to suggest and predict best destinations.
For Samuel, a realistic possibility is one Niners fans would absolutely hate.
Because it makes a lot of sense.
B/R suggests Rams as plausible Deebo Samuel destination
In trying to identify a best-fit spot for Samuel, B/R's Joseph Zucker tabbed head coach Sean McVay's Los Angeles Rams as a worthy suitor:
The Los Angeles Rams' need for a wideout reflected less on their current options and said more about the fact Davante Adams is a free agent in 2027. Miami's CJ Daniels, a sixth-round pick, might be enough to make the coaching staff comfortable in terms of the receiver room.
Sean McVay is the kind of coach who could utilize Samuel to great effect, though. Depending on the financial terms, it's an opportunity L.A. may not want to pass up.
As much as it'd pain San Francisco fans to see Deebo don the blue and gold, it would make a lot of sense for an L.A. squad poised to win right now and especially after it used its first pick of the draft on quarterback Ty Simpson, someone who won't be able to provide much of an impact until after Matthew Stafford calls it a career.
Reinforcing Los Angeles' receiving room behind Adams and Puka Nacua remains a need, and Samuel wouldn't be wholly unfamiliar with McVay's system, given the similarities it has to head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.
But, gosh. It sure would be too weird and ugly to see Samuel in a Rams jersey.
