They may be getting him back.

The hope for the San Francisco 49ers was that after the bye in Week 8, they would be getting some players back from injury.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is one of the players who was out the last few games, but his latest social media activity suggests he might be ready to return in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Samuel posted an Instagram story of him on a football field and in a weight room, presumably putting in some work. The video can be watched below, via the Coach Yac social media account:

49ers will still have to be careful about Deebo Samuel's injury

It's a great sign that Samuel is getting back on the field. He injured his hamstring in San Francisco's Week 5 victory against the Seattle Seahawks and had to leave that contest, then missed the next two games ahead of the bye week.

Hamstrings can always be a tricky injury to manage, so there is always a fear this could be a lingering or recurring issue for Samuel the rest of the season. But one hopes he can avoid further injury, even though that's probably wishful thinking, since he is a member of the 49ers.

Maybe he just needs some time in the hydrotherapy room, which Matt Barrows of The Athletic recently wrote about.

Deebo Samuel's pending return still benefits 49ers in several ways

Samuel has had a good season so far for the Niners. In the five games he's played, Deebo has 16 receptions on 20 targets for 206 yards and three receiving touchdowns. He also has nine rushes for 78 yards, which is encouraging, since the last time he was in a 49ers uniform, he was averaging 3 yards per carry and looked like a far cry from the guy who seemed unstoppable in 2021.

He is not quite back at that level, but he looks like the same Deebo we saw in 2023 who was still solid enough to help San Francisco in multiple ways and had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage on the season.

When both he and Mike Evans are on the field together, they can help one another. Evans is such a threat and draws so much attention that Samuel can go relatively unnoticed, which is the beauty of San Francisco's offense when all of the weapons are healthy. We saw the flip side of that in Atlanta against the Falcons when guys are hurt, and it becomes much harder to move the ball.

The Niners should still be smart with Samuel and should not rush him back this week if he is not fully ready.

But the fact that he is out there working to get back on the field is a positive sign.
