The San Francisco 49ers sit at 5-4 and have had a very eneven campaign, but fans can at least take solace in the fact that they are not as bad as the Dallas Cowboys.

Things have reached a new low for the Cowboys, as they are playing Trey Lance at quarterback.

Basically nothing has gone right for Dallas this season. The Cowboys are 3-6 on the year after losing 34-6 against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10, and their star quarterback, Dak Prescott, is out for the season with a hamstring injury, which had forced them to turn to their backup quarterbacks.

Cooper Rush started the game for Dallas and struggled mightily. He completed 13 of 23 passes for just 45 yards. He also lost two fumbles and played so bad that Dallas decided to give Lance a shot behind center.

Lance did not fare much better. In garbage time, he completed 4-of-6 passing for 21 yards and threw one interception. He also ran the ball three times for 17 yards.

It was not a great showing for Lance, but he should figure to see a lot of action going forward for Dallas. Rush did not look effective at all, and at least Lance provides a different element to the offense with his ability to scramble.

Lance has had a rough NFL career so far. Injuries and poor play, along with the emergence of quarterback Brock Purdy prevented him from ever getting a real shot in San Francisco despite the insane amount of draft capital the Niners gave up to get him.

His time in Dallas has been characterized by struggle as well. He looked bad in training camp earlier this year and threw five interceptions in a preseason game.

It is important to remember that Lance is still learning at the NFL level. He has played in remarkably few games in his football career when you consider his limited college experience combined with his limited NFL action.

The current situation in Dallas may be the perfect opportunity for him to grow a little bit and showcase to other teams what he is capable of.

Meanwhile, Niners fans can breathe another sign of relief that they have Purdy as their quarterback especially after he had a great game in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lance did not look sharp in his first regular-season action as a Cowboy, but let's see if he can figure some things out and gain some confidence in this dumpster fire of a season for Dallas.
