Coaching carousel may deny 49ers a shot to sign Nick Bosa's brother

It'd almost make more sense than joining the Niners.

Both of the Bosa brothers, the San Francisco 49ers' Nick Bosa and the soon-to-be free-agent Joey Bosa, have made it known they'd eventually like to play together on the same time.

With the elder brother likely to hit the open market after a one-year tenure with the Buffalo Bills, it makes perfect sense for Nick Bosa to lure his sibling over to the Bay Area.

Especially in light of the Niners' own need for pass-rushers after recording a league-low 20 sacks in 2025, suggesting there'd be a bigger chance of it happening this go-around rather than the slim chance it seemed to generate the previous offseason.

Joey Bosa might be inclined, too, even if his days as an every-down pass-rusher are probably behind him.

Unless, of course, another team with now-familiar ties to San Francisco sweeps in to prevent a brotherly reunion from happening.

Titans' new coaching staff could lure Joey Bosa away from 49ers' grasp

The Tennessee Titans' hiring of former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as head coach could ultimately impact the Niners' own free agency plans, including bringing over soon-to-be former San Francisco players who fit Saleh's mold.

But, in Joey's case, one of Saleh's assistants could play a pivotal role in convincing the longtime Los Angeles Chargers defensive end to come to Nashville instead of the Bay Area.

True, Gus Bradley spent 2025 as part of Saleh and head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff. However, after Saleh tabbed Bradley as his new defensive coordinator in Tennessee, it's not hard to connect the dots back to the older Bosa, which is what Pro Football Focus just did:

"Entering his age-31 season, Bosa is proving he can still play at a high level. Although he recorded just five sacks and 36 pressures in Buffalo this past season, he showed a propensity for racking up quick wins as a pass rusher, posting his highest PFF pass-rush grade since 2021. He was particularly adept at beating true pass sets, where he earned an 89.4 PFF pass-rush grade, a mark that placed him ninth among all edge defenders in 2025.

While Bosa hasn’t been as strong a run defender as of late, he can still provide a defense with a strong veteran presence and pass-rush specialist. The Titans recently hired Bosa’s former defensive coordinator in Los Angeles, Gus Bradley, making them a potential fit. Under Bradley from 2017 through 2020, Bosa produced a 90.0-plus PFF pass-rush grade in three of his four seasons.

With that familiarity, Bosa could recapture that production while also injecting juice into a Titans defense that ranked 28th in pressure rate off the edge (18.7%)."

Bradley is the linchpin here; Bosa's former coach and coordinator in SoCal.

Plus, the Titans would likely be able to throw much more money toward Bosa than the 49ers, given the fact the former still has quarterback Cam Ward on an affordable rookie contract, whereas the Niners are beginning to feel quarterback Brock Purdy's yearly cap hits.

As cool (and needy) as it might be to see both Joey Bosa and Nick Bosa suiting up in the same San Francisco jersey, there's another scenario in which the older brother winds up heading to Tennessee to pair with some familiar coaches instead.
