Despite the insufferable number of injuries to high-profile players the San Francisco 49ers have been forced to face throughout (and even before) this 2025 NFL campaign, the latest being the season-ending ankle injury to All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner.
The one superstar who has managed to stay healthy is Christian McCaffrey, which is ridiculously ironic, seeing as how the three-time Pro Bowl running back had missed 37 of a possible 84 regular-season games over the last five years coming into the year, including 13 a season ago.
And head coach Kyle Shanahan has certainly taken advantage, as McCaffrey has been an absolute workhorse through the first seven weeks, easily leading the NFL in total touches with 185, which is 31 more than second-place Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts and 51 more than third-place Javonte Williams of the Dallas Cowboys.
Oddly enough, CMC had exactly 31 touches in the Niners' win over the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday night.
But McCaffrey has put those touches to good use, as he also leads the league in total yards from scrimmage with 981, gaining 465 rushing yards on 132 carries and 516 yards on 53 receptions.
As such, assuming he can continue to stay healthy, of course, the 29-year-old is on pace to reach 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards, a feat that's only been accomplished by three players in NFL history.
And it's probably worth mentioning that McCaffrey is one of those three.
Christian McCaffrey is on pace to become the first 2-time member of the 1,000-1,000 club
The charter member of this highly exclusive club was none other than Niners legend Roger Craig, who racked up 1,050 rushing yards on 214 carries and 1,016 receiving yards on 92 catches for the 49ers in 1985 en route to earning the first of four career trips to the Pro Bowl.
The second to achieve the feat was Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, who amassed 1,381 rushing yards on 253 carries and 1,048 receiving yards on 87 receptions for the Super Bowl-winning St. Louis Rams in 1999.
And then there was McCaffrey, who gained 1,387 yards on the ground on 287 attempts and caught 116 passes for 1,005 yards in 2019 for the Carolina Panthers. His 2,392 total yards from scrimmage that season are good for the third-most all-time, trailing only Chris Johnson's 2,509 for the Tennessee Titans in 2009 and Faulk's 2,429 from the aforementioned 1999 campaign.
As for this season, CMC is currently on pace for 1,129 rushing yards and 1,253 receiving yards, which would give him 2,382 total yards for the year, which would place him fifth on the all-time list, as Tiki Barber recorded 2,390 total yards for the New York Giants in 2005.
