Christian McCaffrey, Luke McCaffrey go all out in Raising Cane's skills challenge

The gridiron is one thing. Serving chicken at Raising Cane's is another.

It might be a while before brothers Christian McCaffrey and Luke McCaffrey wind up suiting up for the same team.

Until then, the two will have to settle for facing off against each other, whether it be with Christian's San Francisco 49ers or Luke's Washington Commanders. And while there's plenty of chatter about the Niners making some sort of move to onboard the younger McCaffrey to aid their depleted wide receiver room, at least he and Christian are no strangers to competing against one another.

This time, it took place in the unlikeliest of places: Raising Cane's chicken fingers restaurant in Colma.

Yes, the two actually became part of the Cane's crew for an afternoon, working the kitchen, partaking in competitions, answering questions and meeting with scores of fans.

"Cane’s does a lot in sports and it’s fun to be here today," Christian told reporters. "We’re just excited about the chicken."

The McCaffrey brothers, no strangers to in-house competitions when they were growing up, participated in a variety of challenges, including the best at stacking cups, working the drive-through, squeezing lemons and drawing their best Raising Cane's logo.

Christian McCaffrey and Luke McCaffrey used their competition to push each other

It wasn't hard to tell how the two brothers thrive under pressure and have been competitive their entire lives.

"Not a little, there's a lot, definitely," Christian told Niner Noise when asked if there was a lot of competitiveness in the McCaffrey household. "That's all we ever did was compete. Having four boys in our family, it was two-on-two everything. As soon as we woke up, if there was snow outside, it was snow football. Or it was indoor basketball. Whatever it was, we were competing.

"That's what molded us in becoming who are today. It's also what made our childhood so fun."

As far as the competitions went, it was neck and neck. Washington fans might argue the younger McCaffrey pulled it off. But, seeing as the competition was in the Bay Area, CMC might have gotten the upper hand.

To Christian, jokingly, winning the Raising Cane's Challenge was almost as coveted as his 2023 Offensive Player of the Year award:

"We always wanted to play in the NFL," Christian added. "Myself, I didn't think I was going to be here. I just wanted to make it to the NFL. Now, to have a brother playing at the same time, to be able to train with him and do all those things in the offseason together. Kind of talk the same talk, it's such a blessing."

Now, if only the Niners could somehow figure out how to make Luke a part of their franchise at some point someday.

Raising Cane's did.
