The San Francisco 49ers have watched the Los Angeles Rams make a massive trade to acquire Myles Garrett. That came after the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl.

There's no wiggle room left in the division, and it appears the Niners are keeping tabs on Las Vegas edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated reported that the 49ers are willing to make the move to trade for Crosby if Las Vegas decides to move on from him:

"But if and when the Raiders do indeed trade Crosby, they probably will trade him for a first-round pick and a second-round pick, or a first and a player. And the 49ers can afford that price."

Shortly after, Hondo Carpenter of Sports Illustrated was a guest on the "Las Vegas Raiders Insider” podcast, where he said the 49ers are definitely interested:

"I am telling you there is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby. Two teams specifically are nuclear hot: the Eagles and the 49ers.”

We'll have to see what the Raiders will really get for Crosby, as their prior trade with the Baltimore Ravens fell through after Crosby failed his physical. Nonetheless, if this turns out to be true, San Francisco would be thrilled to acquire Crosby.

49ers fans won't want to ignore the latest Maxx Crosby chatter

The 49ers have watched a rival make a huge addition, while the other will be defending their Super Bowl title in 2026. San Francisco knows that if it can take a big swing to improve the roster, it'll need to take that chance.

And Crosby would be that type of move.

Crosby has been an absolute game wrecker off the edge for the Raiders. In 110 games (104 starts), he has logged 439 total tackles, 133 TFLs, 164 QB hits, 29 pass deflections, 11 forced fumbles, and 69.5 sacks. He's made the Pro Bowl in five straight seasons.

Not only has Crosby been able to consistently get into the backfield to generate pressure, but he's stout against the run. The idea of pairing him with Nick Bosa would give fans goosebumps and immediately make them one of the top edge-rush duos in the NFL.

While the excitement is there, the Raiders likely aren't in a hurry to move Crosby. Considering his stock took a hit with the trade voided, Las Vegas may wait to let Crosby build his stock back up before deciding to move him. And if it does, trading him over to the NFC isn't a bad idea at all.

The 49ers should be at the top of the list in terms of contenders trying to trade for Crosby. The battle within their own division turned up a notch, and we're not even mentioning the rest of the league. When you can get one of the best players in the league at their respective positions, you have to take that swing.

Bosa is coming back from a torn ACL, so he'll need some time to get back into form. Having someone like Crosby up front would certainly take the load off him and would make a scary combo when everyone is fully up to speed.

It'll be interesting to see if these reports come true, but if so, it would pump up the fanbase, giving them a shot to land a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro.
