Brock Purdy is NFL's undeniable MVP after 3 weeks (and these stats prove it)

The San Francisco 49ers have been on an excellent run to start the season, and their star quarterback is one of the primary reasons why. Brock Purdy has been posting numbers to stand with the best quarterbacks in the game, and it's well enough to be considered an early contender for the league's MVP award.

Historically a quarterback award, it's very easy to see why Purdy is present in this year's MVP conversation. Though it's early, Purdy's doing all of the right things you could expect from someone in his position, and he's been remarkably accurate through three games.

Brock Purdy's numbers have him sitting with the league's elite

Through Weeks 1 and 2, Purdy was on top of the league in terms of completion percentage. He completed 25 of 34 in Week 1 against the Rams, and then posted an impressive 20 of 22 in Week 2 against the Dolphins. He took a step back in Week 3 against the Cardinals, only completing 15 of 27, but all of this put together gives him a respectable 72.3 completion percentage.

To put that into perspective, it's important to have a gauge of the rest of the top quarterbacks in the league. To date, Purdy is eighth in terms of yards thrown with 789 yards, third among qualified quarterbacks for completion percentage with his 72.3, and he's tied with Kirk Cousins with nine touchdown passes.

Purdy also stands as the only starting quarterback in the league who has yet to be sacked, save Michael Penix Jr. for the Atlanta Falcons, but Penix has only been the starter for a single game.

If all of that isn't enough to convince any NFL fan that Purdy should be in the MVP conversation, his historic passer rating should put out that fire. Through three weeks, Purdy has put up an extremely impressive 133.1 passer rating.

To put that in perspective, the highest passer rating a quarterback can achieve is a 158.3.

When you put it under a microscope like this, Purdy looks absolutely excellent on paper. From his completion percentage to his ability to avoid the sack, he's been doing excellent. But it becomes much more impressive when you zoom out and realize that Purdy has been building this impressive season while the 49ers roster has crumbled around him.

If Purdy is able to post numbers like this with a wounded receiver room, one can only imagine how impressive he could be with an entirely healthy roster.

The schedule hasn't been easy so far, but the 49ers have engaged in some winnable games. With a difficult slate ahead against Denver and Seattle, the Niners will again lean on their remarkable quarterback.
