Brock Purdy may have just rankled 49ers fans with his burger preferences

It does not take much to get people to debate their favorite burger joints, and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy weighed in on the debate in a surprising way as he turned his back on a classic West Coast burger staple.

Purdy recently confirmed that he prefers Five Guys over In-N-Out, which is a little shocking coming from an Arizona kid who grew up with In-N-Out.

Here is what he had to say in defending himself:

"I’m from Arizona, there’s a bunch of In-N-Outs, so I do like it. But Five Guys is fresh, it’s authentic. The fries are a lot better I think, and In-N-Out the fries are too small."

It's a bold take that certainly might rankle some Niners fans who have grown up loyal to In-N-Out over other burger chains.

When you sign a five-year, $265 million contract extension, though, you can eat whatever burgers you please. So Purdy is entitled to his opinion even if it may run counter to many of his biggest fans.

Far more important to fans than whether he gets his fries animal style or not is how he performs on the gridiron. When Purdy was healthy in 2025, he proved exactly why the Niners spent all that money to keep him around.

Late in the regular season in games against the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears, Purdy was supremely confident and appeared to be playing as well as he did back with a healthy and dominant supporting cast around him back in 2023 when the team made it to the Super Bowl.

He had to deal with the inevitable quarterback controversy that came when Mac Jones filled in for Purdy and played well, but by the end of the season, those "controversy" takes had largely fallen by the wayside.

Purdy made it clear following the San Francisco's exit in the playoffs that 2025 was a special year in light of all the adversity his team faced. He also left no doubt about his belief the 49ers can win a Super Bowl next season.

For that to happen, the Niners are going to have to give Purdy some more talent on offense in the offseason. They probably need a couple of wide receivers, preferably quick ones, to make the offense more dynamic and give them a legitimate downfield threat. He could also use some more protection up front.

If Purdy can play how he did down the stretch in the regular season last year going forward, then fans in San Francisco won't care a lick what burgers he prefers.
