Brandon Aiyuk's latest Commanders pitch sure reeks of desperation

It couldn't get any more obvious.

In the oh-so-fun world of courtship, playing "hard to get" can often be a good strategy.

It's definitely not the strategy still-San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is playing with his preferred destination, the Washington Commanders.

Aiyuk's social media activity since going AWOL last year from the Niners is deserving of its own chapter book, and some of his more recent posts took direct aim at San Francisco for not simply cutting the cord and releasing the receiver so he could sign with Washington.

Many of those posts have since been deleted, and that was followed by multiple reports of the 49ers preparing to release Aiyuk before the start of training camp next month.

In the interim, Aiyuk remains on the Niners roster. But that's not stopping him from courting the Commanders about as openly as he possibly can.

Brandon Aiyuk is all desperation for Commanders in latest social media post

On a post over the weekend, Aiyuk made it bluntly clear he wants to go to Washington, thereby joining forces with his friend and collegiate teammate, quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Aiyuk certainly isn't playing hard to get:

Of course, two things have to happen before Aiyuk can team up with Daniels in the nation's capital.

First, the 49ers have to finally release him. And two, of course, the Commanders would actually want to sign him. Considering Aiyuk hasn't played since October of 2024, ghosted his previous team and has shown all kinds of desperation to get to Washington, would the Commanders even want to go there?

Maybe. But maybe not. Aiyuk might be damaged goods at this point of his career, the desperate calling on social media isn't necessarily helping matters.

Unless Aiyuk is simply trying to be as much of a headache as possible to his current employer, the Niners, so they'll hurry up and let go of him sooner than later.

Perhaps San Francisco should, just to be done with all of this drama.
