The San Francisco 49ers are well-aware that disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk no longer wants to play for them. In fact, it's the worst-kept secret in the league.
It's also not a secret who Aiyuk wants to play for, as he hasn't been quiet about that information, letting the world know his dream is to be a member of the Washington Commanders.
A former NFL player has Aiyuk's back in the situation, as LeSean McCoy recently spoke up about the standoff between Aiyuk and the Niners and had this to say:
“I ain’t going to lie. He became my favorite wide receiver. I like it, man. It’s time to fight back. Don’t let these ownerships, just start to own you. Them days is over with.”
LeSean McCoy is on Brandon Aiyuk's side in impasse with 49ers
Niners fans need to get used to everyone weighing in on the situation between their team and Aiyuk, especially the longer this stalemate continues. Aiyuk hasn't played a snap for San Francisco since the 2024 season and wasn't even with the team during the previous year. The 49ers have held firm, however, not giving Aiyuk his wish, at least not yet.
McCoy chiming in on this situation isn't all that surprising, given his presence in the sport still. He hasn't played in the league since the 2020 season, retiring after winning two Super Bowls (one with the Chiefs and another with the Buccaneers) but that hasn't stopped him from continuing to weigh in on the drama that is constantly ensuing in the NFL.
At the end of the day, does McCoy's opinion really matter here? No, not really. In fact, not at all. But, as the offseason churns on and Aiyuk continues to officially be a member of the 49ers, it's worth bringing up. If McCoy feels this way about the situation, it's likely that plenty of other NFL alumni feel the same way.
Fortunately, McCoy isn't the one in charge of making the decisions for San Francisco. Hopefully, the Aiyuk drama is over with soon, and if he does end up with the Commanders, fingers crossed they get to deal with all of the shenanigans the Niners got to experience.
