Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's (ongoing) saga and standoff with the San Francisco 49ers has drawn the attention of not only plenty of pundits and analysts, but more than a handful of former players, too.
Fans can potentially tack on former Niners linebacker Reuben Foster to that list, too.
Foster, whose brief tenure in San Francisco didn't lack for controversy, coming to an abrupt end not two full years after being selected in Round 1 of the 2017 NFL Draft, hopped back on social media to offer up an opinion.
And while the ex-NFL backer didn't speak openly about Aiyuk, those he praised in a Twitter/X post indicate he's indirectly speaking to Aiyuk:
I luv Johnny Holland, and my dawg John Lynch. Ppl dont always understand Kyle coaching style, but I’ve liv it. Tough coaching isnt hate it’s accountability. Saban built champs the same way. Kyle has a job to do, like he expects every player to do theirs. There are levels to this.

"I luv Johnny Holland, and my dawg John Lynch," Foster posted. "Ppl dont always understand Kyle coaching style, but I've liv it. Tough coaching isnt hate it's accountability. Saban built champs the same way. Kyle has a job to do, like he expects every player to do theirs. There are levels to this."
Holland, who has been on the 49ers staff since 2017 when Foster was drafted, might not have much to do with Aiyuk. But Foster didn't shy away from praising both Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan—the two individuals Aiyuk recently went after in one of his many anti-Niners posts.
According to Aiyuk, Lynch is a "weirdo," while Shanahan has the "temperament of a f--king toddler."
Foster clearly sees things differently.
It'd make more sense if Reuben Foster harbored more grudges vs. 49ers than Brandon Aiyuk... but he doesn't
Foster splashed his rookie season, yet off-the-field troubles ultimately led to him being waived in November of 2018 before he could even conclude his second season in the league. He briefly signed with the Washington Football Team, but injuries kept him from ever seeing the field, and he subsequently went on to join the UFL thereafter.
However, in praising both Shanahan and Lynch (while also mentioning how tough former Alabama head coach Nick Saban was on his players), Foster's stance is in stark contrast to Aiyuk, who received a lucrative contract extension and was set up to be San Francisco's primary wide receiver for years before his 2024 ACL and MCL injuries.
Years removed from his premature dismissal from the 49ers, it's clear Foster doesn't carry any grudges whatsoever and would rather speak kindly about his former employer despite things not working out there.
It's almost the polar opposite of what fans and analysts are witnessing with Aiyuk right now.
Sure, Foster said nothing about Aiyuk in his post. But, given the timing and context of it, one should safely conclude the former linebacker at least had the disgruntled wideout on his mind when deciding to make that social media post.
It's hard to see it any other way.
