While the Super Bowl was a bust for San Francisco 49ers fans with the Seattle Seahawks winning at Levi's Stadium, some speculated the Super Bowl halftime performer, Bad Bunny, gave a shoutout to a popular theory to explain San Francisco's injury woes.
Niners fans have become far too familiar with the theory that an electrical substation near the team's practice facility in Santa Clara is to blame for all of the injury woes the 49ers have experienced in recent years.
It certainly seems a bit far-fetched, but that has not stopped players being asked about it. Tight end George Kittle has said the issue should be looked into more while linebacker Fred Warner has said that he is not buying it.
Either way, the issue is now in the cultural zeitgeist surrounding the 49ers, and players were asked about it all week with the Super Bowl media brouhaha in the lead-up to the game.
That's why with the substation on the brain all week, 49ers fans and commentators were inevitably going to joke that Bad Bunny was referencing the electrical substation in his performance when he rolled out some fake power lines onto the field.

While it certainly crossed many minds, others speculated that Bad Bunny was more likely referencing electrical power issues in his native Puerto Rico, which seems just a little bit more likely especially since the planning of such an intricate halftime show must have started well before the substation theory even became well known.
Still, it provided a nice bit of gallows humor for 49ers fans as Seattle went on to an easy victory over the New England Patriots.
The main problem with this whole theory is that now the cat is out of the bag. The theory is out there, and in a world where fact seems to matter less and less by the day, prospective free agents and players might be scared away from the Niners because they will think this substation is going to injure them somehow.
It is fun to joke about, but at the same time, it could potentially harm the team.
Maybe the 49ers will have to release some study saying that there is no evidence that a substation can have an impact on a player's health, but even if they do, people will probably denounce it and say it is false.
Bad Bunny may not have been legitimately referencing the substation in his performance, but the fact that it sprung to so many 49ers fans' minds is evidence that this is a talking point that is not likely to go away anytime soon.
