It's a bit of a shock to see one of the San Francisco 49ers' best wide receivers from the last two years, Jauan Jennings, remain available on the open free-agent market. If anything, fans were shocked he wasn't picked up on a new deal somewhere else during the opening days of the league new year.
Still unsigned, and currently ranking as the best-available free agent on FanSided's top-110 free agents list, there's a good chance no deal is reached until after teams figure out what they're going to do in April's NFL Draft.
However, according to Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport, one particular squad with plenty of cap space shouldn't have any trouble bringing aboard the 28 year old.
Davenport compiled a list of best-fit free agents for those teams with lucrative amounts of cap space, identifying the "perfect" landing spot for who's still available.
The analyst's choice for Jennings actually makes plenty of sense.
B/R tabs Chargers as 'perfect' landing spot for WR Jauan Jennings
While there are still plenty of teams in need of receiver help ahead of the draft, Davenport's "perfect" team for Jennings' services is one not wholly unfamiliar to Niners fans: the Los Angeles Chargers.
Here's what Davenport had to say about the presumed landing spot:
"Slot receiver Ladd McConkey's numbers were down in 2025 after flirting with 1,150 receiving yards as a rookie, and while Quentin Johnston has shown flashes over his three seasons, he has yet to amass 750 receiving yards in a campaign.
L.A. needs a reliable boundary target—a sure-handed chain-mover [Justin] Herbert can rely on. A replacement for longtime Charger Keenan Allen.
Enter sixth-year veteran Jauan Jennings.
His 2025 season in San Francisco wasn't especially impressive: 55 catches for 643 yards. But he hauled in a career-high nine touchdowns, and he reeled in 77 passes for 975 yards and six scores the year before.
The longer the 28-year-old stays on the open market, the more his asking price comes down. And the more that price tag decreases, the more sense it makes for the Chargers to reunite Jennings with former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel."
Indeed, it's hard to overlook the previous connection Jennings had with McDaniel during their time together in the Bay Area in 2020 and 2021, and the former San Francisco offensive coordinator certainly would've appreciated the receiver's blocking abilities, let alone his third-down receiving prowess.
Additionally, while perhaps not quite as heated as the NFC West, the AFC West certainly has its own arms race going on, so the notion of the Bolts adding a big-bodied weapon at this point in the offseason has plenty of merit.
And Jennings wouldn't have to travel too far to make it happen.
