The fact there's even a discussion about All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner returning to action for the San Francisco 49ers in their divisional-round bout against the Seattle Seahawks this weekend is amazing, considering the gruesome ankle injury he suffered earlier this season that was projected to completely end his 2025 campaign.

For the most part, head coach Kyle Shanahan has dampened hopes of Warner's imminent return, opting to leave a door open for the possibility but without seriously committing to a date.

On top of that, several team insiders have poured cold water on the rumors of Warner's return against the Hawks, too, including The Athletic's Matt Barrows, who said as much to SacTown Sports 1140.

Several players, too, seemed reserved about the standout linebacker making his return in Saturday's highly anticipated tilt against the NFC West rivals.

But, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there might actually be a possibility of Warner returning anyway.

Adam Schefter pushes back on rumors Fred Warner won't play vs. Seahawks

"He's pushing to play. He's not giving up hope yet," Schefter told The Pat McAfee Show when asked about Warner's availability. "Kyle Shanahan was dismissive of the idea all week long, but Fred Warner doesn't want to let it go."

This jives with a recent comment by Warner, announcing he was "ready" to play again.

"Here's the deal," Schefter continued. "They have until Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. eastern to activate him."

Schefter pointed out how Shanahan and the Niners would be afforded extra time in light of their game against Seattle being played late on Saturday, which at least allows an added 24 hours to make such a crucial decision.

And there's a possibility San Francisco is leaking information, one way or another, to keep the Seahawks guessing about Warner's return as long as possible.

Anything to provide an advantage, right?
