On Monday Night Football, the San Francisco 49ers played the Washington Commanders. In other words, it was the most important game of Brandon Aiyuk's season.
Since tearing his ACL in the middle of the 2024 season, the wide receiver has been on a downward spiral of arrests, temper tantrums, and social media rants. Somewhere along the line, he has seemingly grown to believe that he is (or at least wants to be) a member of the Washington Commanders.
Never mind the fact that the Commanders don't even want him. That didn't stop the All-Pro from taking to his socials to vocalize his support for his new beloved team.
In one clip, Aiyuk was seen getting out of bed to put on a Commanders hat, as he proclaimed it was game day. It was one of many pro-Washington posts. All in a day's work for the unemployed pro.
49ers got the best of Brandon Aiyuk yet again on MNF
For some reason, Aiyuk's past calendar year has led to the 49ers-Commanders game being his Super Bowl. He has wanted so badly to join a team he hardly knows anything about that he is willing to defame the team he is still currently on.
Sadly, the antics have grown old. What were once headline-dominating rants have turned into background noise, as few actually believe the wideout has any sort of NFL career still ahead of him.
Since the 49ers owe him nothing, there is no incentive to release him as he has requested. Therefore, they have been content to let him sit in limbo since he disappeared from team activities during his injury rehab.
Now, it appears that the Niners have gotten the best of Aiyuk yet again, as they bested his dream team with a 23-17 win. While the game ended up being closer than they would've liked, San Francisco maintained firm control of the game, and they demonstrated a clear superiority as a franchise in the process.
The 49ers improved to 6-0, while the Commanders fell to 1-4-1. The two clubs couldn't be heading in more opposite directions, yet Brandon Aiyuk is desperate to join the team free-falling toward irrelevance.
All is good and well in the Bay, though. The Brandon Aiyuk saga is nearing its end, whether that be via release or simple public fatigue, and Kyle Shanahan's squad is perfectly content moving on without him. He'll clearly never step foot in their locker room again, and that is certainly for the better.
