When the 2026 regular-season schedule came out, it wasn't hard for San Francisco 49ers fans to notice some potentially unique challenges over the first few weeks.
Sure, traveling to Australia to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 was tops among the worry list. But a trio of home games at Levi's Stadium over the following three weeks opened the door to another problem the Niners have sometimes had to face during daytime home games.
Hot weather.
Fortunately enough for both San Francisco and the visiting 0-1 Miami Dolphins, excessive heat in Week 2 shouldn't be a factor when the two teams kick off on Sept. 20.
Week 2 between 49ers and Dolphins should have moderate NFL weather
According to forecasts ahead of Week 2's matchup at Levi's Stadium, the temperature at kickoff should be 72 degrees, clear skies and a mere two-percent chance of preciptation. There will be northwesterly winds up to eight miles per hour.
Pretty ideal weather conditions, especially considering daytime home games for the 49ers in September have frequently been played in fairly excessive heat.
49ers typically try avoiding daytime home games early in season
Back in October of 2024, the Niners' home game against the visiting Arizona Cardinals saw excessive heat that not only tormented fans sitting in the eastern concourse but also both teams down on the field—temperatures exceeding 100 degrees on the turf.
It's common for the Bay Area to experience warmer temperatures in early fall that feel very summer-ish, which helps explain why San Francisco frequently requests either road games or away bouts for the first few weeks of the regular season.
The NFL didn't exactly grant the 49ers that this year, aside from Week 1 in Australia. But, considering the Niners and Dolphins won't be experiencing hotter weather at kickoff at least postpones any heat-related concerns for another week.
Those fans in attendance will likely be pretty happy about it, too.
