The San Francisco 49ers knew fully well they had to be involved in the free-agent market this offseason, specifically at wide receiver in light of the inevitable departure of Brandon Aiyuk and the likely departure of Jauan Jennings.

And the fix was to land arguably the best receiver on the open market, the soon-to-be former Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar, Mike Evans.

Evans is reportedly signing with the Niners on a three-year deal, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, ending a 13-year tenure with the Bucs and taking his Hall of Fame talents across the country:

While the full details of the transaction aren't yet known, although it's reportedly worth up to $60 million, it's clear Evans will be San Francisco's new No. 1 wideout, pairing up with third-year pro Ricky Pearsall to give head coach Kyle Shanahan a dynamic receiving corps.

Mike Evans is a massive free-agent get for 49ers

Evans, who landed at No. 16 on FanSided's top 110 free agents, missed out on 1,000 receiving yards in 2025 for the first time in his otherwise storybook career. When considering the plethora of quarterbacks he's played with out in Tampa Bay, it's not hard to speculate he'll mesh well in Shanahan's system with quarterback Brock Purdy delivering him passes.

Granted, last year's injuries are a bit of a concern to a 49ers team devastated by player loss a year ago, and Evans turning age 33 this offseason doesn't exactly jive with the idea of getting younger and cheaper.

That said, the Niners now have a bona fide presence out wide, which was a painfully obvious need when they were wholly shut down on offense last January by the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Now, that's no longer as big a concern.
