The 49ers play a road game against the Colts, and Indy is scheduled to play in Berlin at some point in the 2025 NFL season.
The NFL is still months away from announcing the 2025 regular-season schedule, but San Francisco 49ers fans already know the slate of opponents.
In addition to the obligatory home-and-away matchups within the NFC West, the Niners and the rest of the division will square off against the AFC South and NFC South in addition to the three at-large games on the docket.
One of those AFC South matchups is a road bout against the Indianapolis Colts.
Indy also has no clue about its 2025 regular-season schedule, but it does know it'll be part of the NFL international series of games this year.
And that'll include a bout at Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany.
Indianapolis' opponent in Berlin won't be announced officially until May when the schedule release comes out.
However, there's a decent chance it could be San Francisco.
49ers could be Colts' opponent for Berlin regular-season game
The Colts host their AFC South rivals -- the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans -- for one game apiece while also serving as the home team against the 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, and Miami Dolphins.
It doesn't seem likely the NFL schedule makers would make Indy host an in-division game outside the country, which increases the likelihood of the Niners heading to Europe.
So does the fact San Francisco hasn't played internationally since 2022 when they squared off against the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City, Mexico.
The last time the 49ers played in Europe was back in 2013 when they beat the Jags in London, England.
So, in other words, the Red and Gold are due for a European work trip.
Of note, the Niners are also set to visit the Cleveland Browns, who'll also host a "home" game in the United Kingdom this season.
But, with the NFL increasing its footprint in Germany, it'll be interesting to see if San Francisco makes its first-ever trip across the English Channel for a regular-season contest.
Wir werden sehen.
