While the San Francisco 49ers would prefer to have a fully healthy crop of wide receivers upon the start of training camp, not having some of their bigger names like Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and Ricky Pearsall (hamstring) has led to a number of fringe wideouts getting some extra attention.
Taking advantage of that added attention might mean the difference between a pre-Week 1 cut and making the 53-man roster as a surprise addition.
In the case of Isaiah Neyor, the undrafted receiver out of Nebraska, the early absences of both Aiyuk and Pearsall (along with second-year pro Jacob Cowing because of a hamstring issue) open up the door for better chances.
However, unlike many of his fringe counterparts, Neyor seems to be making a name for himself for all the right reasons.
Isaiah Neyor quickly becoming 49ers training camp star
Neyor already generated buzz prior to camp, earning some recognition from All-Pro tight end George Kittle, who previously discussed how the rookie wideout's 6-foot-4 and 218-pound frame could generate some massive strides that allowed him to cover a lot of ground in a hurry.
Judging from NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco and his insights, it appears as if Neyor is continuing that upward trajectory early in training camp, too:
The play of this 49ers camp (in two days) and, perhaps, many past camps: Isaiah Neyor makes an acrobatic, sprawling catch from Mac Jones 50 yards down the field. Jason Pinnock, Dallis Flowers and Darrell Luter were in tight coverage.

While live footage of this particular play hasn't gone public yet, Maiocco's description of it being a play of "many past camps" speaks measures.
Reading between the lines, one might assume the well-plugged-in Maiocco has a solid pulse on what the Niners want out of their receiver room, and Neyor standing out for all the right reasons helps fuel the buzz that has already grown around the rookie thus far.
There's still a long way to go, of course. But, provided he keeps on this trajectory, Neyor might end up being the darling of camp and forcing his way onto San Francisco's roster.
