It's no secret the San Francisco 49ers head into this season with lofty expectations. Predicated on veteran health, the Niners have an offense that, on paper, could accomplish a rare feat that the Bay Area is unaccustomed to seeing.

Recent injury updates on tight end George Kittle, accompanied by the free-agent signing of future Hall of Famer Mike Evans, could lead to not one, but two 1,000-yard receivers this season. The only other time such a feat has occurred in the 21st century ended with a Super Bowl appearance back in the 2023 season.

Evans is a 1,000-yard machine, and Brock Purdy has never had a receiver so capable of such consistent production. Evans' injury-riddled 2025 campaign broke a streak of 11 straight seasons with over 1,000 yards through the air.

Now getting older and coming off a broken collarbone, the receiver is past his prime, but the red and gold boast enough weapons around him to where another successful campaign is well within reason.

Fellow veteran George Kittle is coming off numerous injuries. He missed the early leg of the season via a torn hamstring, then played through torn ligaments in his ankle before eventually tearing his Achilles in the playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Though the rap sheet from last year might scare 49er Faithfuls, every update on his health thus far has been positive, and Kittle is optimistically planning to return in time for the season opener.

2Two 1,000-yard receivers for 49ers would be a lock, if not for a big "if"

If production were based on skill and situation alone, the Niners would be a shoo-in to boast two such receivers. However, it seems they still can't seem to avoid the age-old question that has been haunting them for years.

Both are 32 years old, and both have experienced a steep physical decline in recent memory. At this point, a year in which both play a full 16 games feels more like a utopia than reality.

Still, Purdy has never had this much talent to pass the ball to. With newly drafted De'Zhaun Stribling set to take the top off opposing defenses, both Evans and Kittle should find plenty of space underneath.

If Purdy's weapons stay healthy, he could experience more success than he has ever had in his young career.

The only problem is, given the age and injury history of said weapons, that "if" is far from a sure thing.
