It wasn't a major shock to see former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings picked up by the Minnesota Vikings in post-NFL Draft wave of free agency, particularly in light of the new rule of such pickups not impacting the compensatory pick formula.
But, the Niners certainly had to pay attention to the fact Minnesota grabbed him.
Because, after all, the Vikings were on the docket of teams San Francisco hosts this season. That would mean Jennings and his new squad would visit head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. at some point—the date known when the regular-season schedule would be released on May 14.
The expectation was it'd be a Vikings-49ers game at Levi's Stadium where many of Jennings' best memories were created.
Well, not exactly.
Jauan Jennings' Vikings will play 49ers in Mexico City game
While the full schedule hasn't gone live yet, the league's international games are officially confirmed.
The Niners have two, of course, kicking the regular season off with a long (can't say that enough) trip to Melbourne, Australia, to face the Los Angeles Rams.
In Week 11, though, San Francisco serves as the home team against Jennings' Vikings in Mexico City, Mexico, a game played at Estadio Banorte (formerly Estadio Azteca):

So much for the Faithful at Levi's Stadium hoping to see Jennings' return happen there.
It'll surely be a bittersweet moment for Jennings, who was an integral part of the 49ers offense the last two years amid serious injury attrition at his position. And, had the Niners beaten the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl back in February of 2024, Jennings would have likely been the game's MVP.
But that chapter is closed now, and Jennings will certainly look to enact some "friendly" vengeance on his former employer.
It just won't be in Santa Clara, California, though.
