The San Francisco 49ers may have been seeking some divine assistance when they were on the clock late in Round 4 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
And if that was the case, they couldn't have done much better than grabbing Washington cornerback Ephesians Prysock with the No. 139 overall pick.
Of course, the defensive back's first name is of biblical proportions, and one can't help but acknowledge Paul's letters to the Ephesians without drawing some comparisons.
Even NFL Network's Rich Eisen, covering day three of the draft, couldn't hold back by saying, "He's bringing a new testament."
Just for the goodness of it, Round 4 featured Jonah, Elijah, Genesis, Jeremiah and Ephesians names selected across the board.
Talk about divine intervention.
Aside from the Godly namesake, how does Prysock fit into what the Niners want to do?
Ephesians Prysock adds depth to questionable 49ers secondary
San Francisco boasts three starting-caliber cornerbacks in Deommodore Lenoir, Renardo Green and Upton Stout, while the free-agent pickup of Nate Hobbs should help matters, too.
Behind them, though, the cupboard is awfully bare. And, unless the 49ers wanted to bank on the questionable performance of Darrell Luter Jr., grabbing another capable body was a must.
Prysock, 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, is a seamless fit in a zone-style defense, and one can't help but think new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris had eyes on the defensive back once day three of the draft rolled around.
Granted, Prysock is not a ballhawk and won't be known for making the impact plays. And he'll need some work in the tackling department when tasked with going up against bigger wide receivers.
That said, as a depth piece, Prysock should have little trouble carving out a niche role with the potential upside of securing a more prominent job within a couple of years.
Provided it winds up being a divine plan, of course.
