49ers can make Maxx Crosby dreams more realistic by thumping the Raiders on Sunday

It certainly wouldn't hurt.

The San Francisco 49ers will get back into action this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9. The Niners are coming off their bye week, and while they aren’t as healthy as they hoped with Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel both likely out, they should get Nick Bosa and Demarcus Robinson back from injury.

Looming over Sunday’s contest with Las Vegas is Tuesday’s trade deadline. The Niners are clearly in buy mode as they clearly seem to be one of the best teams in the NFC, while the Raiders, now 4-4 after a hot start, may be compelled to sell depending on how Sunday’s game goes.

The big question is whether they will be open to trading away edge rusher Maxx Crosby. There were trade rumors all offseason, and he was even thought to be a Baltimore Raven for a little bit until a failed physical meant he would stay put with Las Vegas.

Sam Warren of The Athletic reports that Crosby’s desire is to remain with the Raiders, so it may be tough for San Francisco to pull him out of Vegas.

The Niners have a need at edge rusher, especially since Bosa has been banged up for much of this season, and his health remains a big question mark. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get another player who can put pressure on the quarterback, even though they already reunited with DeForest Buckner.

Niners need to crush the Raiders to make them more open to Maxx Crosby trade

Perhaps the only way to get the Raiders to part with Crosby is by absolutely destroying them on Sunday. If they put a whooping on Las Vegas and the Raiders are at 4-5 in front of the trade deadline, then they might be more inclined to see what they can get from him.

He won’t come cheap. The Ravens agreed to part with two first-round picks in exchange for his services, but maybe, given the uncertainty around his knee and the fact that he is having a bit of a down year with three sacks in eight games, San Francisco could get the asking price down a little.

Crosby has been something of a white whale for the Niners for a while, so landing him would send shockwaves through the NFL. It may still be a long shot, but defeating the Raiders soundly on Sunday makes it more of a possibility.
