Despite being forced to fight through a boatload of injuries that would have decimated most teams, the San Francisco 49ers somehow managed to stay competitive throughout the 2025 regular season, putting themselves in position to win the NFC West and the No. 1 seed in the conference before ultimately finishing 12-5 after losing a winner-take-all showdown with both on the line against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 18.
As the No. 6 seed in the NFC, the Niners, despite losing George Kittle to a torn Achilles in the second quarter, upended the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on the road in the Wild Card Round by a score of 23-19.
Unfortunately for Kyle Shanahan & Co., however, their dream season came to an end this past Saturday night, as San Francisco suffered the second-worst postseason defeat in franchise history with a 41-6 loss to the top-seeded Seahawks, who are now set to host the Los Angeles Rams in an all-NFC West conference title game this Sunday.
As for the 49ers, they're now faced with an offseason in which they'll likely have to replace defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, while also having to make decisions on more than 25 players set to enter some sort of free agency.
And then, of course, there's the matter of the 2026 NFL Draft. The team's biggest needs come April will be a bit more clear once we see how the 49ers handle free agency, but we do at least know now when they'll make their first selection.

From an overall standpoint, the 49ers currently possess just four selections in the '26 draft, owning only their own picks in Rounds 1-4 after trading away all the assets they had in Rounds 5-7.
However, Over The Cap is projecting San Francisco to receive three compensatory picks, two in Round 4 to compensate for the losses of offensive guard Aaron Banks and cornerback Charvarius Ward, and another in Round 5 for safety Talanoa Hufanga.
