The San Francisco 49ers' injury nightmares just keep happening, and Week 3 hit the Niners particularly hard.

Already shorthanded at both wide receiver and the defensive line, Week 3's home showdown against the Arizona Cardinals cost head coach Kyle Shanahan two more key players: wide receiver Mike Evans and left tackle Trent Williams.

Evans' ribs injury will be something to monitor, but Williams is a loss San Francisco can ill afford.

Especially considering the offensive line's depth wasn't particularly seen as a major strength heading into 2026.

Trent Williams injury is a potential disaster 49ers can't afford

The 49ers lost Evans just before halftime but were comfortably ahead in the game over their NFC West rivals.

Shortly after halftime, Williams exited the field and was subsequently seen getting carted off the field.

Just like Evans.

If there is any fortunate news on Williams' injury front, the Fox broadcast subsequently reported the future Hall of Fame left tackle suffered a stinger injury and would be questionable to return.

ESPN's Adam Schefter corroborated the report:

That's good, but the Niners' injury woes just never seem to end.

49ers don't have likable depth behind Trent Williams

Vederian Lowe is the primary swing tackle for San Francisco, but it's a major drop from Williams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan prefers to run his tailbacks toward the left of the O-line, and the perennial Pro Bowler is a key reason why the 49ers' run game has been so successful since his arrival in 2020.

Granted, the Niners can hope Williams' injury is minor and won't carry on longer than the Arizona game.

Especially with tougher matchups like the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks looming in the upcoming weeks.

In the interim, with San Francisco comfortably ahead over Arizona, it wouldn't be a shock to see Williams sit the rest of Week 3 out so he can comfortably heal in time for the following week.
