49ers inadvertently help Bears on their next head-coaching search
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers gave quite a shock to Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown in a one-sided Week 14 game.
In a roundabout way, the Chicago Bears may call the San Francisco 49ers to thank them in the wake of a 38-13 blowout Niners win at Levi's Stadium in Week 14.
Quarterback Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers wholly ran circles around Chicago's defense, putting up a 24-0 lead by halftime while getting video-game numbers from tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Jauan Jennings in the process. And the Niners offense continued to pour out against the Bears after falling flat the previous two weeks.
On the opposite side, though, San Francisco's banged-up defense ensured Chicago's offense couldn't get things going.
At all.

It's not a good look for interim head coach Thomas Brown, who took over duties in the wake of the Bears firing head coach Matt Eberflus in Week 13. Chicago had only one first down over the first half, boasting just 14 by the final whistle.
Brown, who was the previous offensive coordinator under Eberflus, had awfully few answers against the 49ers defense that was without star defensive end Nick Bosa because of injury. Yet that didn't stop the Niners from sacking quarterback Caleb Williams seven times in the game.
San Francisco has dealt with some coaching controversy this season amid its own frustrating season; some calling for head coach Kyle Shanahan to be dismissed or even traded.
But the 49ers arguably helped the Bears with their next head-coaching search by essentially proving Brown isn't going to be the long-term answer.
At least the Niners did Chicago a solid in that regard.
