It will not be an easy task.

The San Francisco 49ers have been eliminated from the playoffs, and now they will look ahead to next season.

They have a big task ahead of them as they may very well have to replace four wide receivers this offseason.

Obviously, Brandon Aiyuk and the Niners are headed for a divorce. The wide receiver's contract has been voided for next season, and it seems like the 49ers will probably end up having to release him unless there is some team out there willing to trade for him, which seems unlikely.

The Niners played all of 2025 without Aiyuk and didn't do too bad, so he will probably not be missed.

But the rest of San Francisco's wide receiver depth chart is in danger of being shaken up in a big way.

Jauan Jennings is the big name the Niners would like to keep. He is a favorite and trusted target of quarterback Brock Purdy and brings so much to the table with his energy and as a blocker as well as a receiver.

Jennings' return will depend on how reasonable he is willing to be in his contract demands. Last offseason, he demanded a raise and requested a trade, which did not result in a massive extension like he hoped but did give him some added contract incentives.

If he works with the Niners, and they can reach a reasonable deal, he could be back. But if Jennings seeks WR1 money, then the 49ers have surely lost their patience for acrimonious contract negotiations with wide receivers and will look elsewhere.

In addition to Jennings, Kendrick Bourne will be a free agent. The 49ers scooped him up early in the season for some extra depth, and he ended up being a great addition. His chemistry with backup quarterback Mac Jones proved to be huge in an early season upset of the Los Angeles Rams.

Bourne seemed to enjoy his time back in the Bay, but he is age 30 now, so San Francisco may try to get younger and faster at wide receiver, especially since Jennings is not a speedster either.

Finally, Skyy Moore is also a free agent. He is not used much as a weapon, offensively, but he proved to be a threat in the return game.

The Niners will have Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Watkins, and Jacob Cowing under contract for next season, but all of those players dealt with injuries for the entire year in 2025 except for Robinson.

Expect San Francisco to draft a wide receiver or two, and we will see if they are willing to be more aggressive in free agency than they were last season to address a key need.
