49ers fans may be operating in different Brock Purdy reality than rest of NFL

Brock Purdy is just 26 years of age and has already brought the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl. Thought by large chunks of the fanbase as the quarterback of the future, he is currently preparing for his fifth pro season.

However, the rest of the NFL may feel differently than those in the Bay Area.

Just this week, the league tabbed Purdy as the 85th-best player in the league. Not exactly what the 49er faithful had in mind when numbers 90 through 83 were released.

Other notable players on this part of the list include Rams running back Kyren Williams and Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who just finished his rookie season with 70 catches for 1,014 yards.

In short, the NFL considers Purdy on par with players who are slightly above average—a stark contrast to how Niner fans view their franchise gunslinger.

The age old question ensues: Is Brock Purdy good?

Despite having the second-highest QB rating in the league last year, the debate about Brock Purdy's prowess in the league is still ongoing.

Purdy had no top receiver last year. Christian McCaffrey ran for less than 4.0 yards per carry, and the Niners defense failed to get stops all season long. All the while, Purdy, aside from his early-season injury, continued to succeed. Yet he still heard rumblings about his impact on the team among San Francisco's laundry list of other talented players.

The NFL's list isn't the only offseason list to disrespect his body of work, either. Other rankings have had him as low as the 15th-best quarterback in the league.

In other words, a fringe top-half player.

Other than winning a ring, it's legitimate to ask what the Iowa product needs to do in order to gain favor with the rest of the league. After all, many other quarterbacks that will rank above him in the coming weeks have not so much as sniffed the Super Bowl.

Fortunately for Niners fans, though, this year could be the most promising yet for their young talent. He finally has his X-receiver, something he hasn't had since Brandon Aiyuk posted 1,342 yards through the air, which, by the way, was the last time Purdy led his team to the Super Bowl.

With a healthy, star-studded cast on offense, Purdy has a golden opportunity to win the hearts of fans all across the country.
