San Francisco 49ers fans have been on a roller coaster when it comes to former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman. He’s been operated by fans in recent years since he’s been quite complimentary of the 49ers after retirement, but Sherman just reminded 49ers fans why they despised him so much all those years ago.

Sherman was asked about the incident that occurred in the NFC Championship game between the Niners and Seattle Seahawks back in 2014. With the game on the line, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick tried to hit wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the end zone but Sherman, the most elite cornerback in the game at the time, tipped the ball which led to an interception and ended San Francisco’s season.

Then, Erin Andrew put a microphone in Sherman’s face shortly after the game and he had his infamous lines: “Well, I’m the best corner in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you gonna get!” Sherman also called Crabtree “mediocre” after the game.

At that moment in time, 49ers fans probably thought they would despise that man for the rest of their lives. The villain can become the ally pretty quickly though and just a few years later Sherman was on the 49ers and helped them make it to the Super Bowl.

Sherman was recently asked whether he regrets his Crabtree comments and had the following to say: No, [I] can never regret saying the truth. The truth stands the test of time.”

Richard Sherman is resurfacing as an enemy of 49ers fans after taking another shot at Michael Crabtree

That’s a pretty brutal dig at Crabtree but it’s a reminder to 49ers fans that Sherman was one Public Enemy No. 1 in the Bay Area for a number of years. He’s now in a weird position though where Seahawks fan love and respect him for his "Legion of Boom" years while also detesting the fact that he turned heel and joined San Francisco.

Niners fans will never forget how much of a villain he was for all those years but at leas he did help the team out. Although, he ironically looked very mediocre in the Super Bowl he played for San Francisco but he was nearing the end of his career at that point and had lost a step or two.

While it will be hard to beat the Sherman vs. Crabtree rivalry, the Niners have had some good rivalries between cornerbacks and wide receivers since then. San Francisco cornerback Charvarius Ward and Seattle wide receiver D.K. Metcalf had some good battled with Ward usually coming out on top. The dislike between 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir and Seahawks wide out Jaxon Smith-Njigba is palpable and should last for years

Nothing will ever top the Sherman/Crabtree beef, though, and Sherman reminded 49ers fans of a time when he was arguably the most unpopular man in the Bay Area.
