While some people will be disappointed it isn't an offensive tackle, EDGE was still a big need and Mykel Williams is still a big talent for the 49ers to kick off the new Robert Saleh era.
The San Francisco 49ers went with a player that was getting some late momentum as a potential pick, taking Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams at No. 11 to help bolster the defensive line and give defensive coordinator Robert Saleh some support in the pass rush.

With Leonard Floyd, Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins gone, the team had a big need on the defensive line, second only to the offensive line itself. While Nolen has some behavioral concerns, he also has some amazing talents, rushing the passer and is a surefire tackler as well.
Nolen was part of a strong Georgia defense in 2024, recording 21 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and five sacks for the Bulldogs. While some were concerned he was a bit underwhelming for Georgia given his talent, he's a very consistent performer and an excellent size at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds.
Obviously, this pick makes absolute sense for the 49ers if they want to return to prominence. And it's likely a pick defensive coordinator Robert Saleh influenced.
After all, he was going to have a voice in the Niners' draft plans upon his return.
The team needs maybe more than one pick spent on the defensive line, and he can be an excellent tandem with Nick Bosa when hunting the quarterback. More weapons are sure to come on Friday and Saturday, so it'll be interesting to see what they'll give Saleh in terms of draft talent.
With Saleh back and a new defensive weapon, there's certainly some intrigue now to begin 2025.
All eyes will be on Williams in camp now to see how he develops, and to see if he can become an overnight superstar in the Bay Area as the 49ers look to put 2024 behind them and take advantage of their easier 2025 schedule to get back on top of the NFC West.
