The San Francisco 49ers have been active in free agency, especially at the wide receiver position having signed veterans Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, but they could still take a wide receiver in Round 1 of next month's NFL Draft.
San Francisco has been connected to two draft prospects, in particular, who could give a long-term answer at the position especially since Evans will probably be around for three seasons at most while Kirk could be gone after one year.
The Niners are reportedly going to host Omar Cooper Jr. and KC Concepcion on top-30 visits, which suggests they're considering a receiver at No. 27 overall.
Concepcion has been buzzed about a lot ahead of the draft. He has been touted for his speed and ability as a deep threat, which is exactly what San Francisco needs in its offense. They might have that in the short-term with Kirk, but if he is gone after next season, the 49ers will need someone to fill his place.
The Texas A&M product could do just that.
Concepcion had 919 receiving yards and nine touchdowns for the Aggies last season. He also showed how explosive he can be as a punt returner, taking two to the house last season.
As for Cooper, the Indiana product has drawn comparisons to both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. The Hoosier is a guy who isn't afraid to run block and could also serve as a deep threat, too, as he is not lacking in the speed department.
Cooper won a national championship with Indiana last season and had 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Niners could certainly use a guy like him as well.
It seems likely that at least one of these two players will still be available when the 49ers are first on the board. Concepcion is projected to go ahead of Cooper, but the draft is deep at wide receiver, so a fair number of receivers may be off the board in the first round.
The question for San Francisco is whether it wants to make sure the offense is set at wide receiver or if it wants to address another need like edge rusher or another position on defense.
If the decision does come down to Concepcion or Cooper, it could be a 50-50call for general manager John Lynch as both players look great on paper.
